There are certain iconic artists that, when they come to town, you must go see. Sting is one, and he recently brought his Sting 3.0 tour to Indianapolis for two nights of stories and music.
Opening the first of the two nights with “Message in a Bottle,” it was clear from the start that this was going to be an evening of legacy, nostalgia and every song that fans wanted to hear.
Sting roamed the stage, hitting every note of each song just like he did at the time of their inception and carrying some of the long notes with such ease and spent time in between songs reminiscing about the times he’s played in Indianapolis as well as telling stories about the inspiration behind certain songs.
Sting also told a few jokes on stage, talking about his “small cottage in England,” before joking that “okay, it’s more of a castle, but still,” then inviting a group of fans to come see it if they can get past the mote, bridge and giant gates, which got a big laugh from the crowd. He also joked off and on about how many of his songs are about marriage and infidelity.
The completely sold out and capacity-filled audience added to an already-intimate and energetically fun show, with people in their 20’s, 30’s, 50’s and even 70’s dancing, clapping and smiling as Sting nailed every song.
Sting still sounds and looks amazing. He’s jacked to the gills and is still as vocally exquisite as he was in 1978. Almost 50 years later and he looks and sounds like has another 30 years in front of him.
Taking place at the Murat Theater and with a 21-song setlist, Sting put on an intimate show that let him get up close with the fans in ways he couldn’t last year when he played Lucas Oil Stadium with Billy Joel.
This tour is one that you shouldn’t sleep on or miss. If you’re a fan of The Police or Sting’s solo career, you’ll hear every song you want to hear and you’ll get a glimpse into the personality of one of the most iconic singers in rock and roll history.
