William Control and Davey Suicide play Indy\’s Emerson Theater

On the recent Indianapolis stop of the Revel Without a Cause tour, Davey Suicide and William Control shook a small venue in Indianapolis. Despite playing for a less than crowded room, they still packed a powerful and worthwhile performance for enthusiastic fans.
After a lackluster group of performances by local bands, opening tour band, Fearless Vampire Killers brought a less than exciting performance, which is in contrast to their album. Maybe they were having an off night — their music is well worth a listen, though.
The same can be said about The Relapse Symphony, who followed Fearless Vampire Killers. Many bands sound good on record but either have off nights or just don’t transfer well live.

As advertised, Davey Suicide took the stage and immediately shook up the place with his particular brand of metal with a message — and his message was suicide. He was promoting the message of individuality and the limitlessness of one’s self. Davey Suicide is a man of few words, but with a lot to say. Stepping on stage in his full regalia, including mic stand clad in silvery skulls he began his set with a forceful opening number grabbing everyone’s attention. His music is reminiscent of Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson with an electronic flare.
Finally, headlining and originally hailing from Seattle, Washington, William Control’s performance was well worth the wait. His style of music reminds me of more oldschool goth industrial and electronic modernized with a more sanguine sound. Control was definitely less forceful than the earlier bands of the evening, but no less enjoyable and the diversity of the musical styles brought a more dynamic feel to the event.
