Review: The Unity

\"\"Every once in a while a new album comes to your attention that no matter how much you listen to it, you still want to hear more and more. Well that is exactly what happened when I listened to the new self-titled record from The Unity. The band is comprised of members from Gamma Ray and Love.Might.Kill and has crafted one of the best debuts I’ve heard in a very long time. All of the players involved as well as the singer are at the very top of their game and “Rise and Fall” kicks things off with a song that sounds like a more melodic Primal Fear and features a killer solo. “No More Lies” features an infectious as Poison Ivy chorus and an intense guitar solo while “God of Temptation” is driven by a monster guitar riff. “Firesign” and “Close To Crazy” are both good songs, but “Always Just You” winds up being one of the best songs on the album with a big sing along chorus to back it up. Both “The Wishing Well” and “Eden’s Fall” are catchier than the common cold while “Super Distortion” features one of the best guitar riffs on the album. It’s a damn shame it’s only about one minute long. “Killer Instinct” takes a moment or two to get going, but once it does, my advice is you better get your ass moving or get plowed down, while “Never Forget” is the other song on the album that is utterly fantastic, featuring big verses, big bridges and even bigger choruses. Here’s the bottom line: It’s pretty rare for a debut album to play as well as this one. Do yourself a favor and give this one a spin. You won’t be disappointed. Rating: 9/10 -Eric Hunker
