Review: Greta Van Fleet- Anthem Of The Peaceful Army

Over the last year and a half or so Greta Van Fleet has sold out almost every single venue they have performed in, playing main stage of most of America’s biggest rock festivals and hitting number one on Billboards hard rock chart. The best part about it all is that they’re still in their 20’s. Their 2017 EP- From the Fires put them all the way at the top of rock and roll and their upcoming release Anthem Of The Peaceful Army is poised to keep them there for years to come. Opening the album is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in my life. “Age of Man” starts off with a very quiet string instrumental that is then pierced by Josh Kiszka’s vocals that gave me instant goosebumps. This is a song that listeners will easily get lost in, not so much because of its length but because of the melody and meaning. Lead single “When The Curtain Falls” shows how the band has stayed extremely consistent from the first release to now and how they have absolutely perfected their sound. It’s an all-around fun song that gave fans a little taste of how phenomenal this album really is. “Lover, Leaver (Taker, Believer)” is my personal favorite from the album. It’s hard to listen to this song sitting still, the guitar riffs and bluesy undertones make it almost impossible not to move. “You’re The One” is a classic 70’s southern rock love song and it’s perfect. With the group backing vocals for the chorus it really sets it apart from the rest of the album. A nice and beautiful slow tune is exactly what perfected this album. “Anthem” closes out the album with a display of interesting vocals and lyrics about life that gives listeners a chance to reflect. “The world is only what the world is made of” is probably the best line of the whole tune. Overall this is a fantastic debut album for Greta Van Fleet. They’ve found their sound and perfected it and didn’t change things up too drastically. There is something so calming yet so curious about every song and every lyric that I think fans will see that this album is truly something special. Rating: 9.5/10 -Tera Ford
