Orchid: The Mouths of Madness review

There’s always been a fine separation between melodic and heavy metal- some bands combine the two but often times it doesn’t turn out very well. The heavy metal bands are one world while the melodic metal is a culture all of its own. Orchid are the latest band to mesh the two together and it’s turned out beautifully. Their latest record, The Mouths of Madness, is both heavy and melodic. With dark lyrics, pounding riffs and some great metal, Orchid have created a monstrous beast of an album. The record has a rough, gritty feel to it, adding to the effect- sometimes records are just too clear and overproduced but The Mouths of Madness is quite the contrary. Orchid have released a great metal album here and it’s one that will find its way into the dark hearts of metal fans everywhere. Rating: 8.5/10 -Reggie Edwards
