Live: Thrice in Silver Spring

Thrice and Circa Survive are out on a co-headlining fall tour bringing along with them Chon and Balance and Composure. I was really excited to catch the tour at The Fillmore in Silver Spring Maryland. Up first for the night was Balance and Composure from Pennsylvania. Vocalist Jon Simmons is extremely passionate on stage. The energy from him and the rest of the band got the crowd energized and ready to go for the rest of the evening. Chon took the stage next. Going into the night I was totally unfamiliar with this band but I definitely left a fan. There are no vocals and their set is like a 45 minute jam session. It blew me away. The guys are so talented and the music was phenomenal. It was a little strange without vocals but the crowd was really into it and I was very happy to have had a chance to see them. Circa Survive should be on everyone\’s list of must see bands. These guys are outstanding on stage and they also have one of the most passionate fan bases so the crowd was insane for the entirety of their set. They played a few songs off of their newest release The Amulet such as “At Night It Gets Worse” and “Flesh and Bone”. They also played their older hits “The Difference Between Medicine and Poison is in The Dose” and “Stop The Fuckin’ Car”. Thrice has been unstoppable since their 2016 release of To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere. This is a band I enjoy more live than I do hearing them on the radio, which is why it makes sense that this was my third time seeing them just this year.Dustin Kensrue has one seriously beautiful voice with a lot of power behind it. The band played my favorite of their newer songs “Hurricane” and during the song I actually saw a few people tearing up in the crowd. It is way more beautiful to see it performed than it is hearing it on the radio. They also played “Blood on the Sand”, “Firebreather”, “Come All You Weary” and of course “Black Honey”. Overall this was a perfect night. Each band of the night brought a new and different to the stage. The crowd was intense all night long and it was pretty hard to move around by the end of the night because the place was so packed. I highly suggest trying to catch one of the few remaining dates on this tour which ends on December 8th in Maplewood MN. -Tera Ford
