Live: Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats in Indianapolis

From the moment that I was offered to cover Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats (again) it didn’t matter how far I need to travel. Rateliff & co. would be the fourth and final installment in the WTTS Rock to Read benefit at The Old National Centre’s Egyptian Room in Indianapolis, IN. In other words, that’s a six hour jaunt through Indiana in December…of course I’m interested! This would be the inaugural performance for Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats in central Indiana, so to say that the energy in and out of The Egyptian Room was electric would be an understatement. Although the concert was an all ages event the lion’s share of attendees were middle aged with a slight sprinkling of twenty something’s (that couldn’t hold their liquor). Opening the show would be would be Indianapolis native & Nashville based Brandon Whyde & the Devils Kept. It didn’t take much of their forty-five minute set for Whyde & the Devils Kept to draw in and whip the sold out crowd into a lather with their Alt-Country/70’s rock sound. By the time Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats reached the stage the crowd was full tilt. Between the libations and the excitement, Rateliff could’ve performed with laryngitis and fans would’ve had a great time. Thankfully, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats were primed and off to the races! For a band that has been on the road consistently for over a year, Rateliff’s vocals were solid but obviously tired. That said; his dancing shoes weren’t affected as he moved and grooved to the neo-soul movement that he and the Night Sweats are championing. In all, those in the crowd were able to experience the magic of Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats. If you get that same opportunity, DO NOT miss it!     \"NATHANIEL   \"
