When a soul music icon comes to town you go, no exceptions. So, when Indianapolis found out Erykah Badu was coming to town, the show sold out quickly, especially when they found out The Alchemist was coming too.
After a DJ opened the show to get things warmed up, the crowd waited an extra 20 minutes for the show to start, but when it did, it was electric.
Badu and The Alchemist both emerged from beds on opposite sides of the stage, using old, vintage telephones as microphones.
The pure, unadulterated emotion of Badu as she sang the words and brought them to life was magic and the show was spiritually powerful.
With couches, skulls, potions, tribal drums and more props adorning the stage, Badu often sang with her eyes closed, arms moving around in animalistic fashion, really getting into the essence of each song, making for a ritualistic show that fans would not soon forget and proving why she’s still one of the queens of soul and pop.
