Godsmack: 1000hp review

They say the best things take the longest and when it comes to Godsmack the records continue to impress but take longer than usual to make. With their latest offering, 1000hp, the band took four years to follow up their previous record- The Oracle– but have proceeded to blow it out of the water. Over the years Godsmack have developed a sound that works for them. With this, it’s pretty easy to tell what to expect from the veteran metal band- an anger-fueled, pissed off metal experience and 1000hp is no exception. The title track- also the opener- is more like a reminiscent song where we see frontman Sully Erna reflecting on the early days of the band with high-octane, adrenaline-fueled metal that you can’t help but get into. “FML” is the epitome of a Godsmack song and the title says it best. Virtually every track on this record is exactly what you’d expect from the band- from “Something Different” all the way down through the ending track “Turning to Stone,” the band is in their element and better than ever. 1000hp is what Godsmack does best- rocking the living hell out of you. Erna’s lyrics are classic Sully Erna. If you’re a longtime Godsmack fan you’re gonna feel right at home and if you’ve been living under a rock and are just discovering them, this is a great place to start. Rating: 9/10 -Reggie Edwards
