Alexz Johnson lets Indy eat their cake
Fresh off the release of her latest record, Let ‘Em Eat Cake, Alexz Johnson has hit the road in support of said record and she’s bringing Jared and The Mill as well as Patrick Droney with her for support on the tour.
They recently made a stop at Indy’s Radio Radio for an intimate night of music and fun. Initially, the crowd was sitting decently far back from the stage, but it didn’t take long until they were right up against it.
Droney started the night off with a set that was just himself on guitar and a piano player, making for a very calm, soothing set that had everyone, focused, primed and ready for Jared and The Mill, who were up next.
Straight out of Arizona, they have a lot of southern influence within them, rocking the banjo, washboard and playing some bluegrass-infused rock- very reminiscent of Mumford and Sons.
With this being their last tour in a while since they’re going into the studio next year, fans showed them the appreciation deserved and connected with the band on multiple levels. They played a few new songs from their upcoming album to give fans a taste of what was coming their way and the fans responded just as strongly as they did for the older material.
Look for big things from Jared and The Mill in 2015 as the new music is going to be some of the most impressive stuff they’ve done yet.
After a few hours of outstanding music from both support bands, Johnson took the stage for a strong set that included tracks from each of her releases. She even had opener Patrick Droney on guitar for the evening, whom you couldn’t even tell wasn’t a regular part of her band.
Johnson teased everyone who was still sitting in the back until virtually everyone in the crowd was standing up close and personal with Johnson. Throughout the night she would make subtle sarcastic jokes to make the crowd laugh and get them out of their comfort zone, making for an even better performance.
She was engaging, entertaining and used every inch of the stage to her advantage. Johnson made sure to get everyone in the band involved and make them a part of the show- not just a backing band, but the forefront of the show and utilized them as a vital asset to the music.
The Alexz Johnson diehard fans were in complete bliss by the end of the night, having heard every major song the singer has released and Johnson proved why she’s one of the most impressive young voices in music today.
