With nostalgia love at an all-time high right now along with Warped Tour making a comeback and many pop punk bands from the 2000’s hitting album anniversary milestones, it’s the perfect cocktail for sold out summer concerts and Simple Plan is one of the bands benefiting from this.
Last summer, they went out on the road with Bowling For Soup and 3OH!3 and the tour was so successful they’re doing it again this year, dubbing it The Sequel.
Bowling For Soup opened the show up and lived up to every expectation fans had for their set. Opening with “Gril All The Bad Guys Want, they made fans laugh, jump, laugh some more and even took a break mid-song to pose for photographs for each side of the stage while Nickelback’s “Photograph” played over the speakers.
3OH!3 were up next and changed things up quite a bit with their bass-heavy electronic pop punk dance antics and took fans back to the late 2000’s in a time warp of a set that had everyone in the crowd dancing, chanting and singing louder than the band was able to sing and play at times.
Simple Plan closed it out with a set that proved exactly why Simple Plan have had the longevity they’ve had.
The giant LED screen, intro video package, cryo smoke, and high-energy set showed that Simple Plan has grown far beyond its small pop-punk band reputation.
Jumping around the stage, smiling the entire night and getting up close with the crowd, the band made sure to get the fans involved.
At times, singer Pierre Bouvier walked through the fans, played a piano in the middle of the crowd and made it a point to ensure everyone got their money’s worth and left knowing exactly why they’re a Simple Plan fan.
Moreso, they proved why the band are at the top of the genre, why they’ve lasted as long as they have and that they aren’t going anywhere any time soon.
This is the best kind of tour- all three bands are completely different. They all have different sounds, different vibes and energy and different identities. The one thing you can say about this tour is that it’s fun.
