Review: New Fears Eve is a fun, gory, twisted, hilarious, outrageous, slasher film that keeps you guessing

There aren’t many New Year’s horror movies- good ones at that…until now. New Fears Eve is upon us and setting the bar high for New Year’s horror films.

The movie opens with a string of brutal killings across the country at the hands of The Doctor- a serial killer donning Plague physician attire. When The Doctor finds his way to Owensboro, things take a sinister turn.

We’re introduced to the staff at Hooper Industries- as well as their piece-of-shit boss, Mr. Dugan (spoiler alert- he doesn’t make it), as they prepare for their annual New Year’s Eve party.

As people start getting mutilated and murdered by The Doctor, we’re off to the races in a flick where the kills are creative and gorgeously gory.

When you get a slasher film about New Year’s Eve, you kind of know what you’re going to get with the story and premise- there will be a NYE party, there will be people, a few will be drunk and most of them won’t make it- but how we get there is what counts, and boy do PJ Starks, Eric Huskisson and company make it count.

They’ve got some serious heavy-hitting names in this film- with Dave Sheridan (Scary Movie), Jeffrey Reddick (creator of Final Destination), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) and many more, and they all play crucial roles.

The film is loaded with fun easter eggs and nods to classic horror movies- The Doctor appears and disappears like Michael Myers and one character is named ‘Harry Warden’- a callback to My Bloody Valentine.

Billed as a slasher comedy, there are tons of comical moments and lots of levity- including one very specific kill that happens during the NYE party, involving something going through someone’s eye.

Loaded with twists and turns, you truly never know who The Doctor is and, just when you think you have it figured it out, they throw another twist at you.

New Fears Eve is a fun, gory, twisted, hilarious, outrageous, slasher film that truly keeps you guessing and will make you gasp in surprise. Tapping into a completely underutilized market, New Fears Eve sets the bar high.
