Today’s rock and metal world is ever-evolving. Many artists are using electronic effects in their music to add a fresh edge. Sometimes it works, sometimes it fails miserably.
One of the latest artists to emerge using dubstep and electronic elements is OCTiV, who’s latest EP, Infernal, sets the bar for all newcomers for what we should expect.
Anyone who knows me knows I’m always critical of dubstep elements in rock and metal. Basically, I can be hard to impress with this world, I’ve just never understood why the two seem to be merging sometimes.
Then there are artists like OCTiV and records like Infernal that prove there’s still hope that this experimentation and movement could actually work.
There are some heavy metal elements here that seethe and pierce with ferocity and electo-vocals that can’t help but hypnotize you into loving this EP.
The electronic elements are heavy but you know what you’re getting going into it- there are no surprises here, OCTiV is pretty straightforward with what he says you’re getting.
With the outstanding instrumental and musical elements and foundation here, there’s only one more thing needed to make this a home run of an EP- the lyrical content. If the lyrics are strong then this is one hell of a record- and that’s exactly what we have here- one hell of a record.
Lyrically we have some dark and powerful lyrics that, even if you don’t agree with them, you can’t help but love. Plus, who couldn’t love a song called “Death Twerk,” come on people- that\’s just the icing on the cake.
This record is dark, it\’s groovy, it\’s heavy, it\’s fun and makes you wanna rave. It\’s like a sinister acid trip, so do yourself a favor and go check it out now.
